Nobel Prize for Literature

There are 5 Nobel Prizes, for Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Peace, and Literature.

The Nobel Committee for Literature looks at the nominations for the Literature prize.  They make a recommendation to the Swedish Academy who make the final decision.
The winner receives 10 million Krona, or NZ $1.9 million.  Wow!

Last year the Literature award was won by Mario Vargas Llosa, and no I haven't heard of him either!  Past winners include more familiar names like Doris Lessing, Harold Pinter and Toni Morrison.
